Immigrant Woman Entrepreneur bridging Madagascar & Italy

I came across Edith Elisa Jaomazava through the beautiful photo gallery of Isabella De Maddalena on Foreign Entrepreneurs in Italy.

Hers is an inspirational story of an immigrant woman entrepreneur finding an opportunity between her country of origin and her new home country. Originally from Madagascar, she is now based in Torino, Italy. Having to balance taking care of her children and finding a source of income, she decided to start her own business. She knew already that she wanted to go into the spice industry as, she explained, Madagascar produces vanilla and spices in general. Doing market study and research, she saw that there is a great demand for vanilla in Italy for various industries: pastry shops, ice cream, cooking schools, etc.  She started the company SA.VA. in 2004, with just one spice: vanilla bourbon. By end of 2010, she is already marketing up to 25 types of spices. Continuous research on the market  and on the richness of Madagascar’s spices has given her chances to expand her business.

The video is an interview with her by

For contact details of SA.VA. see here.
