Immigrant Woman Entrepreneur: Looking Back

Kahindo Katirisa Ernestine came to Italy as a refugee in 1997. She was fleeing from the civil war that besieged Congo. While she left her home country, she made sure to always look back. She has since then become active in civil society and cultural promotion of her country in Italy.

Looking back did not only anchor her ties to her origins but also provided her with a business opportunity. At the start of 2011, she established Barazavenir, a company that recycles used Italian products from computers, to clothing to other high-tech equipment and distributes and sells them in Sub-Saharan countries, especially Congo. Barazavenir deals with the collection, separation, shipment and the retail of the recycled products in Africa.
