Roots&Routes: Road to Reinvention

When we move to new soil and set up new roots, it is inevitable for us to change, reinvent ourselves in order to adapt and grow. And we can take this as an opportunity (not many people get to have!) to create the career, business and life we have always wanted.

But how?

> Change Paths

If the path you have taken seems to be going nowhere, then change direction. Focus on the opportunities that these new paths may present. We have come as educated women, with years of professional experience. Those know-how don’t just go away and vanish. But we may have to repackage and find new functions, uses for these qualifications and skills. Or we may need additional skills and knowledge in order to find new niches. Look in other directions. Go back to old childhood dreams. Explore new interests.

> Choose a Direction

It’s our choice to make. Instead of just going with the flow, we have a say in the direction we can take. This i think is summed up by this quote:

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in our shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…” – Dr. Seuss, Oh the Place You’ll Go!

(Don’t have a clue which direction to take, check out the blog post on Wednesday (may 16) to help you think about it.)

 > Chart the Course

Like in any voyage, we have to chart out our course. How will you get where you want to go? Break it down into manageable actions and milestones. Take an online course, learn the language, network,  join an organization, volunteer to get exposure to a new field… Identify the actions you need to take in order to get there and make a plan.

Once you have a plan, you’re ready to take the road to reinvention. Bon voyage!
